Communications
Concept & research · Project initiatedExplore how clear messages, effective listening, and well-designed communication systems support people, projects, and organizations.
Project purpose
I am starting a broad communications project that connects interpersonal skills, professional communication, and the technology used to exchange information. The aim is to develop practical methods and test them through small, documented exercises.
Research areas
- Active listening, feedback, empathy, and conflict resolution.
- Professional writing, presentations, and audience awareness.
- Team coordination, service communication, and clear handoffs.
- Email, messaging, voice, video, and channel selection.
- Technical exploration of networks, signals, and connected-device communication.
- Accessibility, understandable instructions, privacy, and communication reliability.
Initial work
- Identify a recurring communication problem and its audience.
- Map the sender, message, channel, receiver, feedback, and possible sources of confusion.
- Draft one message template or communication procedure.
- Try it in an appropriate exercise and document what needs improvement.
Planned outputs
A communication map, a practical message guide, reusable templates, and small demonstrations of how information moves between people or devices.
First milestone
Choose one situation, such as a customer inquiry or project handoff, and create a clear communication workflow. This new umbrella project connects to the laboratory’s existing digital communication and interpersonal communication work.
